Military & Veterans: Confidential Counseling

Semper Fi!

My dad enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served our country honorably in both WWII and Korea. When he separated from service and was hired by the US Postal Service, he jumped at the chance to work at BLDG 1103 for the next 20+ years.

I was born at the old Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton and grew up shopping for clothes at the Main Exchange and pushing the shopping cart for my mom at the old Commissary that used to be across the highway from Munn Field. I bowled at the Recreation Center, watched movies for 10 cents at the Bull Dog Box Office Theatre, learned to ride horses at Stepp Stables, and spent most every summer day at Del Mar Beach. My pediatrician was at the Naval Hospital and my very first lifeguard job was teaching swimming lessons at the 13 Area Pool.

To The Colors:

I loved visiting my dad on base and was in awe of the mutual respect and connection he had with both officer and enlisted. As a child, my dad showed me how to salute properly, taught me what Semper Fidelis meant, and made certain I stood at attention with my right hand over my heart when we heard “Retreat” starting to play at 1730.

Many of my family members served honorably in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm. I grew up with a great respect and appreciation for our active-duty military and veterans. Seeing how my mom was also an especially important part of my dad’s successful military career and his post-USMC adjustment, I was amazed by her class, her mercy, and her dedication—and I witness these traits in many of our military spouses today. On behalf of a grateful nation: “Thank you—active duty, veterans, spouses and families—for your service to our country!”

I am honored that you might consider working with me and it would be a privilege to hear from you.
